It’s been a long time since I’ve looked at / looked into evolutionary psychology. I have a love-hate relationship with evo psych, mainly because the majority of people are awful at evo psych analysis, theorizing, and application. Otherwise, it is obvious that evolution has played a role in human psychology. The issue is just, how.
But, why does it feel like every criticism of evo psych is an obvious straw man??? Come on people, this is tiresome; surely you can do better than this.
And, regarding the opposing theories to evo psych, am I missing something? Are they really arguing for the tabula rasa? I swear I thought we debunked the tabula rasa idea a long time ago. (Well, maybe “debunked” is the wrong word to use here; disproven.) Do people really still believe in the blank slate? I have to be wrong about this, right?
I need to overlap looking into evo psych with looking into cognitive psychology. Dammit, why did I pack all my books away…? I miss having free and easy access to a university library…
I go back and forth with the idea of trying to go back into academia. I just don’t know if I could stand it now, going “back into the establishment”… Well, that and obviously the cost; since, if I were to go back, I’d go into a different field of study.
